The Kamiah Youth and Family Recreation and Wellness Complex
KCPC is raising money to construct a youth recreation and wellness complex which will offer new motivating opportunities for at-risk youth. It will be a recreation and wellness complex where youth from the community can come to socialize in a drug and alcohol-free environment. It will aid youth in safely making the difficult transition from youngster to adult and helps them
develop positive attitudes about themselves and their community.
At this complex the youth will find a motivating factor to strive for a better tomorrow. The youth will be provided with useful tools as well as much needed resources. Youth will be able to have a home away from home atmosphere, where they can interact with other youth facing the same challenges. Youth will also be provided with counseling sessions, computer access,
extra-curricular activities, independent living skills, job readiness, and a healthier life style plan. Adolescents will be provided with the opportunity to complete community service required by school, court, or probation. This complex is being built as an inspirational center to motivate at risk youth to become successful and know there is brighter future
The KCPC Youth and Wellness Complex will first concentrate on youth between the ages of 12-18. The goal is to locate the complex at Dupont Park in Kamiah, Idaho. There are youth getting in trouble roaming the streets, because they simply have nothing better to do. The complex would provide activities and courses that youth are interested in doing according to their age, something that will motivate them to keep busy and do good.
Hoped for outcomes are to change the rate of youth getting into trouble and prevent them from engaging in at-risk behaviors. This complex will provide those youth with support and referral as well as other options to make the right choices. Mentors will try their best to inspire youth to better their lives by doing something productive that they will enjoy. The complex will provide educational, emotional, and moral support to help youth become productive individuals.
Although the complex will focus on youth, the second goal is to have family and community involvement. It would involve the parents in a family night every week where there can have brief counseling sessions or an activity night where youth and their parents can bond and interact together. Parents and the community would be welcomed to participate in fundraiser events as well as helping to organizing events for the less fortunate. This would teach youth and family the importance of humility and giving back without expecting something in return. This would be a great learning experience for both the parents and youth.
Mental Health
The complex will provide counseling on each of these topics. Counseling will vary and will be provided by a therapist, counselor, mentor, guest speakers, as well as volunteers. The complex will also be providing youth with outside agency referrals depending on their issue or struggle.
